APD’s focus is the design, integration, testing, and support of advanced technologies for new and derivative engine concepts. Technology areas include military inlet & exhaust systems, integrated propulsion power & thermal management systems, advanced material systems, and other breakthrough component and system technologies to support the future of military flight.
The APD – Mechanical Design Advanced Lead Engineer will lead elements of the mechanical design and development for an Edison Works New Product Introduction (NPI) program as a Hardware Owner. This is a role for someone with a passion for engineering who understands the design process and digs in when confronted with a technical challenge. A Hardware Owner does not work alone and as an Advanced Lead Engineer must be able to direct teams and lead initiatives to achieve broader goals.
As a Hardware Owner in the Mechanical Design Subsection, you will be the focal for the maturation of high temperature engine components that integrate across sub-teams and into larger systems. As an Advanced Lead you will utilize core engineer skills including 3D modeling, finite element analysis, high cycle & low cycle fatigue assessments, mechanical stack-ups and drawing definition release and provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced engineers.
In addition, an Advanced Lead engineer is expected to manage priority across multiple cross-functional teams to establish boundary conditions, assess material and manufacturing capabilities, conduct design trades to optimize across a range of requirements, and understand the impact on project cost and schedule. Designs will be developed in support of future test and qualification efforts and the scope of the role will also include development of producibility and supportability strategies. As an Advanced Lead Engineer, you will drive design efforts with feedback from experienced Team Leads & Controlled Title Holders in a mission-based team environment, assessing resource gaps and proposing strategies to protect program deliverables. This position reports to an engineering manager in Evendale, OH with the opportunity to integrate with various internal & external engineering disciplines.
Teams in the Advanced Programs space are fueled by a love of aviation and a sense of purpose to support our military customers. We solve hard problems by pulling concepts from the science & technology realm into the world of applied engineering. Whether it’s composites design, aeromechanics, additive manufacturing, manufacturing support or test – this role is a guaranteed opportunity to grow your skillset. The harder the problem – the harder we push, building on a legacy of engineering excellence to invent the future of flight.
